      Neighborhood Action Produces Results

75 th ave is now closed to thru traffic at the request of Residents. Police have increased patrols in the area including Brookdale Park as a result of information collected from several neighborhood watch meetings during the summer. The early results have been encouraging.

 Below is the view from the parking lot exit onto Noble Ave the street in background is 75 th Ave. North This is the most dangerous stretch of street in the city from 2:00  to 2:30 PM. People have complained for years about cars speeding through our neighborhood.

                            Possible Solutions

Make it a right turn only... so the students can safely exit the lot... and not have to race across Noble Avenue  to turn left .

Traffic Direction for Dismissal time

Closing of the gate at this exit . eliminating oncomming 75 th traffic hazzard

 Some safety concerns about evening events ;

Fans, parents and visitors park bumper to bumper on each side of the street, leaving barely enough room for even one car to travel.  Darkness compounds these dangerous factors.

As a cooperative effort to address pedestrian safety concerns in our neighborhood before and after Park Center High School games. We are requesting that temporary no parking signs be placed the day of approximately five events a year on the even side of 75th Ave and the even side of Major Ave North to the Lee Ave Court.

Opinions

    After attending three crime watch meetings for our little neighborhood and after living in the direct path of school .The common complaint is speeding cars, antics on a daily basis after school. Addressing  those issues should be the first priority.

Complaints have been made to the Police and City Hall  " for years"according to residents. The design of the parking lot exit is the source of some of the problems. It must be reviewed and addressed immediately.

(The edited letter posted below has some key observations and comments on traffic and safety matters in general surrounding Noble Ave. )

Hello,

The following are some concerns from the residents of the Noble Ave. North. We feel as if Noble Ave. has become a main thoroughfare through our city instead of the 30 mph residential street it is meant to be. We realize it is a heavily traveled residential street, but is still a 30 mph road.

There was a day in the spring when 2 officers were on Noble, near 78th, one facing each direction of traffic, using their radar guns and stopping many, many cars. I noticed many warnings were issued by the officers, seeing them stop the cars and talk briefly to the driver, but not issuing a citation. It would be great to see more of the same, but having speeding tickets issued when warranted. Wouldn't it be great to earn Noble Ave the reputation as one of those streets you just don't speed on? Especially being a street that has hundreds and hundreds of kids traveling up and down it each day with the Junior High and Elementary schools on each end.

Secondly, curfew and the noise ordinance being enforced.  As the old adage goes, "nothing good ever happens after midnight"
I have also been witness to the mass of Junior High kids meandering down Noble Ave after school, swearing, shouting , fighting, trespassing, destroying property, littering. Traffic having to stop because there are so many kids walking together, or pushing each other in to the road. I do understand that much of this behavior is behavior that should of been taught to these kids at a young age as inappropriate, but was apparently not. I have also seen the unmarked squad trailing behind the mass, stating over and over on his loudspeaker, "stay on the sidewalk" "move along" but at what point will the city stop babysitting this crowd and issue citations?
