Did anyone see anything suspicious ?
 9/26 Sat 2:00pm 400pm 78 TH & Major

I just got word from our 78 TH and Major Block Captains that during the day while the homeowners were home an unlocked car parked in the garage with the door up had a Purse stolen from it between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00 pm Saturday 9/26 .

Some items from the purse have been recovered in the area of Lee and Major Ave. If you find items in the area that you think may be from this incident or have information to report. Please call 911 or if you wish to call the main number Call ( 763-493-8222. )

The Police Department is located at 5400 - 85th Avenue North, Brooklyn Park and open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Bike thefts have also been on the rise. I've also gotten word that youth have been seen in broad daylight without any hesitation going up to homes and stealing bikes and then dumping the bike blocks later. I've personally have had at least six in as many years dumped in my yard. Please register your bikes with the Brooklyn Park Police department to aid in recovery if stolen .

The purpose of the identification stickers serves two purposes. First, the visibility of the identification sticker notifies the bike theft that the bike is registered and marked and is the primary factor in preventing bike theft. Second of all, the identification sticker allows the police department to notify the owners of registered bicycles if the bicycle is abandoned or found property turned over to the police department. This program is free and there is no cost to residents.

To "Register Your Ride", stop by the Brooklyn Park Police Department at any time to register your bicycle. Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Thanks

Hi,

I did some checking and here's what I found out: Brooklyn Center received a burglary call at 0152 hrs. in the 7200 blk of Kyle Ave. No. Brooklyn Center Police responded and found that the three armed suspects had jumped out of a window and ran. Officers arrived and set up a perimeter and caught two of the suspects but not the third. That's why the canine units were deployed and Trooper 7 (state patrol helicopter) was called in to help search the area but the suspect was not located.
 ( Please note this is south of Woodbine east of Noble}

Hey Brian,

One of the "original" Estate Dr neighbors came today to let me know that last Friday Morning she had the police at her house because when she let her dog out at 6am she noticed her patio furniture was all moved, at first she thought her son had moved it but as she was putting things back she noticed a note that said " I watched you sleep" she called the police and when they walked around they found some little knick-knacks lined upped outside her bedroom window.

September 25,2008

Two kids with large backpacks observed knocking on doors of homes in the 76 th and Major area during daytime hours. When approached by a neighbor they took off on their bikes. The neighbor didn't recognize the kids as being from the neighborhood. Please be on the look out for this type of activity as this is typical of what we have seen before as our alert log would indicateBike thefts have also been reported as well in the past few days

ust wanted to let you know about an incident that happened yesterday (Monday) morning at Lee and Estate.  Around 8:00 in the morning, my neighbor saw a young male walking down Lee towards Estate.  She could not see his face very well as he kept looking back, as if to see if anyone was watching him.  She watched him  go up into a yard and attempt to take a bike.  She yelled at him, he yelled something back and she went in the house and called 911.  The police came and she gave a description of what he was wearing.  Later, the police called and said that they had picked someone up.  She went to the police station and was able to identify him.  The young male admitted that he tried to take the bike.  She later learned that when the cops picked him up, he was carrying a gun.  Thankfully, my neighbor was not hurt and she admits that she probably should not have yelled at the male, but should have called 911 as soon as she saw what was going on.

Monday Afternoon June 9 2008

I would like to add  that on Monday afternoon  an Asian teenager wearing a white button down shirt  and blue jeans  was wondering aimlessly around 75 th and Major all afternoon .

He made several rounds through the neighborhood stopping, waiting, sitting and standing as if he was waiting for a bus after awhile it became suspicious enough for me to call 911.  As it turns out it was an innocent situation but the behavior was suspicious.  In either case call 911 and let the Police investigate the suspicious persons.

Obviously the alert on top is a good example of why we need to let the police take care of it .  I would  like to thank the Block Captains for the alerts

I also thought I might mention last wed. We were awoke by the sound of our front door handle being  turned (it was 3am) I heard it and so did our dog he went growling to the door. We went to look and the motion light was on (it is set at a low sensitivity setting) we called 911 and they came out and looked around but saw no one

Burglaries

During the last two months the City of Brooklyn Park has experienced a significant increase in daytime burglaries. Although the police department has made a number of arrests the burglaries continue to occur. We are asking for your assistance in being very observant in your neighborhood and please call 9-1-1 when anything suspicious is seen.

The following behaviors have been used by suspects in several of the daytime burglaries:

a..Suspect rings the doorbell of home to see if anyone is home. If someone answers the door they ask for someone that doesn't reside there. Although this may not seem overly suspicious we are asking that you call 9-1-1 if this happens to you.
b.. Most suspects are making entry into the residential homes through doors and windows. Please make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked.
Please make sure you have good deadbolt locks and a heavy duty strike plate.

a.. It is believed that a lot of the burglars are walking through neighbor's yards on foot looking for target homes to hit. They do not always walk only in the street and sidewalks. Again if you see people you don't recognize cutting through yards please call 9-1-1 so we can have an officer check out the situation. We would much rather check it out and find out it's nothing than to find out a few hours later that several homes have been broken into.
b.. Suspects may check the mailbox before walking up to the house to see if the mail is still in the box signifying to them that the residents are not home from work yet. A possible deterrent for this would be to get a locked mailbox. It is almost impossible to see if there is mail in these boxes. These mailboxes are available at any home improvement or hardware store.

Some of you may not be aware that the Brooklyn Park Police Department offers a free service called a Home Premise Survey.  This is where a trained Crime Prevention Specialist comes out to your home and provides training on how to make your home less of a target for crime. If you would like more information on Home Premise Surveys and other crime prevention efforts please contact the Crime Prevention Unit at

also the Brooklyn Park Police will be presenting a Burglary Prevention Workshop on Wednesday,  May 20th from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Brooklyn Park Police Department Training Room, 5400 85th Ave. No.  This is a free workshop for residents of Brooklyn Park. Space is limited so we must limit it to the first 80 residents that call or email us.  The phone number to register is 763-493-8284 or email the number of residents attending to Gerry.Gibbs@brooklynpark.org

Remember .crime prevention is a collaborative effort between the police and the community.  By working together we can ensure that Brooklyn Park is a safe place to live, work and visit.

Just want to fill you in, Aug 4 th at about 1:45 a.m. someone knocked or rang the doorbell at a home 0n 78 th   and Major ,when

The homeowner turned lights on and answered the door, guess what, nobody there. So they  called the cops.

As harmless as this sounds it follows the events reported before the break-ins on lee and major  now we have this tool to be on guard .

August 8 2008
between 3:30am and  4:00am two males were seen walking down Major as well as sneaking beside bushes in a neighbors yard.  The police were called and a chase ensued still unsure whether the men were apprehended.  They were tall black males dressed in all black with gloves on their hands.  The following morning a neighbor reported that after watching the men he felt as if they were attempting to break into or take a vehicle.  This same neighbor found one of his outside chairs in the neighbors yard with a footprint and the chair was broken as if they had been standing on it and it fell through.

The nightly door knocking has Begun again on August 31 2:00 am on the 7600 block of Major ave  someone must be trying to see if anyone is home before they try to  break in.   This follows the  same patterns before the chase and break ins see alert log from bottom left of home page . If you have experienced   this and found this information helpful let us us know .

76 th and Major

I was home with my small child and I was on the telephone (about 8:30pm)
when a gentleman wearing all black knocked on my door. I looked towards
the door and when we made eye contact he left. I immediately called the
Police - I was watching to see if he was going door to door possibly
selling something but in fact he crossed the street and met up with 2
other men and they waited for a couple minutes and a car (small
hatchback type-did not get the license or make, it had one headlight
missing) came up and picked the 3 up. When the Police came I told them
of the events and they patrolled the area for the car.

On Labor Day weekend 2009,Tuesday at 1am Homeowners were awoken to a loud thud on the back deck. The homeowner went to the kitchen to check it out and found 2 adult black men in our fenced in yard. One of them had been on our deck and had knocked our patio chair around (that was the noise). The homeowner opened the patio door and yelled at them to get out of his yard. They yelled back that "we're just friends and we got into a fight, sorry man!" The homeowner said, "I don't care, just get out of my yard, I'm calling the cops." Which he did and the men ran away before the 4 cop cars arrived. We were rather shaken the rest of the night and watched the 4 cop cars drive around the neighborhood and leave after 25 min.  As our yard is fenced in, there was absolutely no reason for them to be in our yard, and it's possible they were trying the patio door to see if it was locked or they could have been drunk or high and have come from the park and could have been in a fight, regardless they didn't have a reason to be in our yard.
